behind blue eyes...

i took my car into be serviced today. it was long overdue, but being low on cash and having had it off the road for a couple of months, i had no choice. the maintenance part was uneventful. i was happy as they found nothing wrong with my baby. the cool thing was that my car was at 124, 000 exactly when i pulled in.

i had bought a book and my mp3 player so i had something to do while my car was being serviced. i realized that i had to go and track down this magazine (pop journalism) and my garage offers drop off service so i had them take me to the local megachain bookstore. of course, it's not open yet so i wander down to the local megachain coffee shop for something to eat. as always, these places always seem overstaffed yet service is crap. anyways, this guy finally asks me what i want and damn, if he doesn't have the most intense blue eyes i have every seen. he's right up there with paul newman and roger daltrey. they are so intense and he's making such deep eye contact that i'm dropping my money, wallet etc. and the funny thing is i was just telling a friend that i NEVER notice or remember eye colour. i only remember if they have light eyes or dark. his eyes were so amazing i even went back there after i went to the local megachain electronic store. they were out of rewriteable dvd's. i could not understand this. when i went back to the coffee shop, i was able to feed my frozen coffee drink addiction, but not by my little sweetie. he was on break. :(

the reason i took my baby in to be serviced is because i'm off to seattle tomorrow to see the reunion of the murder city devils. whoo hoooo!

i am being haunted by clowns. last nite there were dancing clowns on sabrina the teenage witch.

i'll comment on the one cancellation later... it's all about good thoughts right now.

Send In The Clowns... there ought to be clowns...

clowns freak me out. i've been thinking of clowns because i saw the funniest thing on frasier the other nite. frasier dressed up as a maniac clown and had a butcher knife in his hand. his dad opened the door and when he turned around, frasier was there. martin screamed. i laughed my ass off. and then later that day i was watching an episode of disney's the weekenders and it was all about tino's fear of clowns. i so related.

yesterday, i went out for dinner and drinks with friends. we had the most evil time at the five point cafe in vancouver. it was sad. i love the five point but i am not sure i can ever go back there because the ass. manager was such a bitch. i'll blog seperately about that. it'll just wind me up and i'm not ready to go there yet.

anyways, because i was going out, i was going to miss the one. i forgot to ask my brother to tape it when he got home from work so i had to leave him on note on the bathroom door and hope that he woke up in time to see it (he works graveyard). my vcr died a few months ago and i haven't replaced it yet. plus if my brother tapes it, i get to watch it on dvd.

getting back to the first paragraph and things that freak me out. i realized to my horror, that i actually cared if my brother taped it and that i wanted to know what happened. and that i probably wouldn't find out until this afternoon if he did. which was what happened and i found out that no, he didn't get the note and thus, did not tape it.

so now, it's around 5pm and i have to go online to find out what happened. and i'm seeing all kinds of rumours about cancellations. i deliberately avoid all of these because i don't want to know about that until after i blog this.

i have this to say about abc. they are doing such a shitty job with any promotion of this show. i guess after the low ratings they just gave up. i stupidly assumed i could just go their website and find out who got voted off. but no, i had to go crawling thru the boards, reading all these inane comments to finally find out what happened.

and of course, it turns out that i really wished i had seen this episode. not only did the blonde one get voted out (which i realized after my last post, she is the one that annoys me the most. not nick. but don't get me wrong. nick annoys me a lot. ) but she finds out that nick has gotten some girl pregnant. i wish i could have seen that moment. i would have laughed my ass off. look, you claim you broke up with your boyfriend before this all happened but yet in the first episode you say you have a boyfriend. one of these comments is a lie. either way, i'd call it karma babe.

as i was crawling thru the boards, i read this posting ..

the program is hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos, an overly earnest Canuck who's reportedly the cat's pajamas in the Great White North and bears a passing resemblance to Ford Fairlane-era Andrew Dice Clay. ok, everyone has the right to his own opinion but andrew dice clay? i don't remember seeing mr. stroumboulopoulos in all leather outfits.

oops.. i have just seen this on the abc site...

There are no plans for additional episodes. Thanks to all who participated in and supported The One!There are no plans for additional episodes. Thanks to all who participated in and supported The One!

i actually feel sorry for a lot of the people involved.

we're gonna have a tv party tonight.. alright!

it's been freakin' hot here. it's starting to cool down, but when you throw in a bout of insomnia and my natural nocturnalness, i feel like i have spent the past week, in front of my air conditioner (the current love of my life), watching tv. i have discovered that no matter what time it is, there is always an episode of saved by the bell on. and if you really want to screw with your mind, on the hottest day of the year, watch xmas specials.

so tonight was episode three of the one (you know, i didn't start this blog out to review the one, but somehow that's what it has turned into). i still don't like any of the contestants but man, do i dislike a couple of them. the blonde one and nick. nick is the only contestant i can remember the name of, strictly on the basis that he annoys me most of all. the others i just have nicknames for.

i was talking to a friend of mine who is not watching the one. she watches rockstar supernova that runs opposite it. we talked about how we are not thrilled by cbc picking this up and all the controversy over it bumping the national. i'm more upset because it has replaced the mercer report out here. even tho' it is repeats, i miss my weekly dose of rick. he makes me laugh out loud every week. and could the cbc please advertise what time the show is on out west? i tried to pay attention to every ad, and i don't recall ever seeing it listed.

anyways, since i admit the only reason i'm following the one is to watch mr. stroumboulopoulos' performance, i'll start there. i have a friend who always asks me how his hair is. i'm happy to report his hair has been fine on all three shows. make up - good. wardrobe - better. it is the fit that is bothering me and tonight's outfit was soooo close to being spot on there. as for his actual hosting performance, tonight's show made me happy. not stiff, very personable, cocky in the right places. nice naturalness to the contestant's interviews. didn't feel so scripted. some good quips that actually sounded adlibbed.

the judges. well it's as if they have read the boards etc and decided ok, let's try and be mean now. the way the female judge (another person i can never remember the name of) was trying to tear strips off the contestants about last week's show. uh, honey, from what i remembered you had nothing that terrible to say on the show, so why the turn around? and that whole hoochie mamma comment, about not having breasts on display this week. so why did almost all the female contestants have low cut tops on? the judges this week were all attempting to be all hardcore.

the show is still way too long at two hours. i am hoping that once the contestants numbers start dropping, it will go down to just an hour. my boredom level started to kick in around the hour point.

and please, could all the beautiful people singing karaoke stop crying on camera. yah, you're senstive. i get it.

Where have all the good pancakes gone?

i've recently come back from my third annual trek to the calgary stampede. people who know me are always surprised that i enjoy calgary so much. i like my friends but they can be such urban snobs at times. they think that all calgary is is a town full of religious right wing homophobic red necks. i've been there many a time in the last three years (not just for stampede and i don't think it would be fair to judge calgary at stampede) and i have yet to meet one redneck. at least one in the open. everyone has been super nice and friendly to me. sometimes that dissappoints me. i love looking for a verbal fight...:)

the music scene seems really cool there. i'm not sure what it's like to play there and there does seem to be an extremely high number of cover bands. i have discovered quite a few bands i like there via the internet and yakking to people who live there. i always have a list of local stuff to pick up at Sloth (love love love sloth) when i visit.

but this trip seemed to be about food. i'm bummed out that i never got to try the bbq at palomino's. i had a stampede breakfast there, potatoes were yummy but the rest was average. if the money hadn't gone to charity, i'd have been pretty pissed. had breakfast while watching the world cup final at the drum and monkey. breakfast was good, but my friend had the mac and cheese and it was yummy... i'm going back to have that next time. loved the dogs at tubby dogs... i went for the a-bomb.. mmmm potatoe chips...

but here is my beef with calgary.. where the hell do you get pancakes? i'm not talking fancy crepes, or fruit filled buckwheat ones. but good ole buttermilk or plain pancakes. even the few stampede breakfasts i have gone to have not had any pancakes. every place i have gone to for breakfast does not have pancakes on the menu. i don't want ricky's or denny's or milestones, i can eat at those anywhere. i even asked the guys at my car rental place this time and they were like, i don't know where you can get pancakes. i am convinced there are no pancakes in calgary.

The One Results.. or things may not be so bad

ok, so i watched the results episode of the one and as much as i hate to say it, i found it seemed to show some improvement. i think i was most thankful that the show was only an hour...:) no no no now i'll be somewhat serious. i realized to my shock that 1/2 way during the show, i actually cared somewhat on who got what votes. this is mainly due to the fact that some people have already started to annoy me. which is a good thing. during the first show, i was surprised to find that i didn't care about any of them. the judges irritate me, they were all peace and love in the opener but now it's as if they have been told to be tougher, meaner. they were like, oh yah, i reviewed your performance and i was wrong.. you were off.

as for mr. stroumboulopoulos' performance, i am happy to say that it's improved. much less stiff. makeup has improved vastly but i am still having wardrobe issues. again, it's not what he's wearing per se, but it doesn't look right. i'm still leaning toward it's being improperly fitted. not his fault, that's why there are directors and producers etc. which is where i feel the majority of the problems with the show lie.

the performances bore me but then i still feel it's beautiful people during karaoke. i'd rather see these people do original material.

The One

after it was announced that mr. stroumboulopoulos was going to be hosting the new american reality series 'the one', i got emails from pals asking me what i thought. i make no secret of the fact that the only tv shows that i make a point of never missing are 24 and the hour. and i was not thrilled by the news at all. a lot of them were purely selfish reasons like do i really want to see george in 'people magazine'? will he be appearing on 'good morning america' and 'the view' next?

i debated back and forth with myself on whether or not i was going to watch this reality (why are these called reality shows? whose reality is like that? aren't these really just talent shows?) show. i thought maybe i'll just tape it and watch it later. none of these shows ever appealed to me before, although i can't say that i don't watch reality tv as i used to claim. i realized that what are home improvement shows but a form of reality tv? and currently, i do enjoy watching 'inked' on a and e.

anyways, due to a drug coma brought on by a generic cold medicine (haha.. no product placement here) , i was unable to tape it and ended up having to watch. man, i wished i had taped it, because then i could have fast forwarded thru it and only watched the parts that interested me. it wasn't that i hated it, but i just found it boring. i didn't care about any of the particpants either way. maybe that's how these shows start off? maybe people don't care until after a few episodes? i have no idea. it just seems like beautiful people singing karoke.

as for the hosting job, i've seen better but most of the issues i have would be production/direction related. the web seems to be all buzzing that he didn't have his nose piercing in. i, on the other hand, never expected him to have it. come on, abc is owned by disney. there was no way he was going to be able to keep that. same goes with the wardrobe. the jacket, etc was what i expected. although something seemed wrong there. i can't put my finger on it. maybe it wasn't fitted properly. his makeup certainly was over the top. he opened rather stiff, but that could be down to opening night jitters or bad direction.

the other bitch i have about it is CBC's advertising of it. Not only is it on ALL the time, but they keep pushing what time it is on in the east. which is not what time it is on in the west. if i am watching in PST time, i'd like to see my ads in PST time.

i will watch tonight's results show but i will keep my book handy. and thankfully it is only an hour long. two hours is way too much.

and could it have a more idiotic name? it is impossible to do a decent google search on it...:)
